In approving the initiative, a representative of the Hawaii State LIbrary System said today, “it is amazing to see an entire community come together to support their public library.”

Original plans of the Rotary Club of Lahaina called for a facelift only of interior library space. Contractors later volunteered to extend the project to improve portions of the back office. The new initiative by the Maui Friends of the LIbrary brings the project far beyond the original vision.

President Dorothy Tolliver who recommended funding exterior painting to her board reviews early plans with Richard Burns, head of the Hawaii State Library System, at the Rotary Club of Lahainaʻs first Savor the Sunset library benefit in 2010.
